How to Change SSL/TLS Encryption Mode in Cloudflare

Cloudflare’s SSL/TLS encryption mode determines how data is encrypted between Cloudflare, your server, and your visitors. You can adjust this setting to match your preferred security level. Here’s how to change the SSL/TLS encryption mode in Cloudflare.

Step 1: Log In to Cloudflare Dashboard

  • Go to Cloudflare’s login page and enter your credentials.
  • After logging in, you’ll be directed to the Cloudflare dashboard.

Step 2: Select Your Domain

  • Choose the domain for which you want to change the SSL/TLS encryption mode.

Step 3: Go to SSL/TLS Settings

  • In the left sidebar, click on SSL/TLS to open the SSL/TLS settings for your domain.
  • Under SSL/TLS, you’ll be on the Overview tab by default.

Step 4: Configure Encryption Mode

  • Click on the Configure button (or Change button if already configured) to adjust the SSL/TLS settings.
  • You’ll see various SSL/TLS encryption modes. Choose the one that best fits your security needs:
    • Strict (SSL-Only Origin Pull): Allows only encrypted connections and requires a valid SSL certificate on the origin server, plus SSL-only pull for added security.
    • Full (Strict): Requires a valid SSL certificate on the origin server and ensures strict HTTPS communication.
    • Full: Encrypts traffic but accepts self-signed certificates on the origin server.
    • Flexible: Encrypts between Cloudflare and the visitor but not between Cloudflare and the origin server.
    • Off (Not Secure): Disables encryption, not recommended as it leaves traffic unencrypted.

Step 5: Save Changes

  • After selecting your desired SSL/TLS encryption mode, click on Save to apply the changes.

Your SSL/TLS encryption mode is now updated. Cloudflare will apply the new setting, and the updated encryption level will secure all incoming and outgoing traffic based on the selected mode.
