How to Enable Leech Protection in cPanel

Leech Protection helps you secure your website by preventing users from sharing their passwords or logging in from multiple IP addresses. It’s especially useful for securing restricted areas of your site.

Step 1: Log in to cPanel

  • Begin by logging into your cPanel account.

Step 2: Access the Leech Protection Interface

  • Scroll down to the Security section.
  • Click on Leech Protection.

Step 3: Select the Folder to Protect

  • You will see a list of folders. Click on the folder icon or name to navigate to the folder you want to protect.
  • Once you’ve located the folder, click the Edit button next to it.

Step 4: Configure Leech Protection Settings

  • Set Maximum Login Per User: Enter the maximum number of logins allowed within a 2-hour period. If a user exceeds this limit, their account will be redirected or suspended.
  • Set Redirection URL: If an account is compromised, you can redirect users to a specific URL. Enter the URL where you want users to be sent when their account is flagged for leeching.

Step 5: Enable Additional Options (Optional)

  • Disable Compromised Accounts: You can choose to automatically disable the accounts that violate the set login limits by checking the Disable Compromised Accounts box.
  • Receive Email Notifications: If you want to be notified whenever an account triggers Leech Protection, check the Send Email Alert box and provide the email address to receive the alerts.

Step 6: Enable Leech Protection

  • After configuring your settings, click Enable.

Step 7: Confirmation

  • You will receive a confirmation message indicating that Leech Protection has been successfully enabled for the selected folder.
